Meanwhile, working across borders to tackle global health challenges is more important than ever in an interconnected world. From the impact of COVID-19 to the digitisation of the health sector, from patient services to medical infrastructure, our work focuses on current and future challenges.

Outsourcing adult social care has contributed to England’s care crisis, argue researchers

Outsourcing adult social care services in England to the private sector since the 1980s has led to worse care and should be rolled back, argue researchers from the Blavatnik School of Government and the Department of Social Policy and Intervention, Oxford University, in The British Medical Journal today. They suggest that removing the profit motive would help improve quality and reduce inequities.

        Enhancing primary care in Brazil

The Brazilian SUS is one of the largest universal health systems in the world. This policy brief outlines a series of recommendations to enhance shared management within SUS's existing institutional framework, in accordance with the constitutional principle of regionalisation of health. Key proposals include increasing resources and professionalising the regional branches of state health secretariats to provide stronger support to municipalities.

Proposal for funding and co-ordination mechanisms to maximise benefit / minimise cost / minimise risk from donor investment in COVID-19 vaccine development

This policy brief, written in March 2020, argues finance (rather than development of new vaccine technology) was likely to be the binding constraint on the timing of broad and equitable global availability of COVID-19 vaccines.

        Rethinking Health Security after COVID-19

In a critical examination of the health security paradigm, this report argues that, while the security implications of pandemics are clear, the concept of health security distracts attention from the underlying determinants of health that exacerbate the effects of severe disease outbreaks and disproportionately affect the most vulnerable. The report offers recommendations for developing and sustaining a human-centred approach to global health.
