Find out more about our work on education

Education is the foundation of success, both for individuals and societies. Increasing literacy, numeracy and other key skills in low- and middle-income countries is urgent. Progress on getting children into school is not enough: many are in school, but are not learning. This learning crisis demands urgent action, and we are responding.

What Works Hub for Global Education

There's an urgent need to get all children learning. Finding out what works through controlled studies has been a critical first step. Working out how to put these evidence-based ideas into widespread practice, all the way into millions of individual classrooms, is the next frontier. The What Works Hub for Global Education is an international partnership with the ultimate goal of ensuring literacy, numeracy and other key skills for children in low- and middle-income countries.

Human Capital at Home: Evidence from a Randomised Evaluation in the Philippines

This study looks at how parents can help young children (ages 3-5) develop important skills, like math and reading (phonics), especially in low- and middle-income countries where there aren't many programs aimed at improving home learning. The researchers conducted an experiment to test an intervention that encourages parents to teach these skills at home.
