Abstract

Violence, abuse, and harassment against politically active women is a growing global issue, from online abuse to rape threats and murder. This problem, linked to both gender and political participation, remains under-researched, particularly regarding perpetrators and solutions.

The ‘Strengthening Democracy by Reducing Threats to Women in Politics’ project at Oxford’s Blavatnik School of Government aims to address these threats. Master of Public Policy students investigated areas such as the EU’s response, Sub-Saharan Africa’s perpetrators, US legal frameworks, Pakistan’s laws, and social media’s role.

The research highlights the need for comprehensive, multi-actor policy solutions to tackle this complex issue.
