The final RISE (Research on Improving Systems of Education) conference starts at the Blavatnik School today, capping an eight-year, multi-country, £43m programme that has changed thinking and practice in the push to get the world learning.

There's an urgent need to get all children learning. Finding out what works through controlled studies has been a critical first step. Working out how to put these evidence-based ideas into widespread practice, all the way into millions of individual classrooms, is the next frontier. The What Works Hub for Global Education is an international partnership with the ultimate goal of ensuring literacy, numeracy and other key skills for children in low- and middle-income countries.
