Professor Emily Jones and Associate Professor Isabel Ruiz have published a new article in The Oxford Review of Economic Policy arguing that care work should be central to economic analysis and policymaking.
Highlighting findings from a double issue of the journal, the article sets out how care – including childcare, eldercare and unpaid support within households and communities – underpins labour markets and productivity, yet remains undermeasured in GDP. The collection makes the case that care must be recognised as foundational to the economy.
