For the last six years the Transparency for Development (T4D) project has sought to understand the role of transparency and accountability programmes in empowering communities to improve their health care – as well as how and why we see such mixed evidence when these programmes are implemented in the real world. The unique mixed methods research project combined two large-scale randomised controlled trials in Indonesia and Tanzania with extensive qualitative interviews, observations and ethnographic studies, as well as a second phase including three smaller studies in Ghana, Malawi and Sierra Leone.

Join four scholars and practitioners from the T4D team as they share results – including the good, the bad, and the unclear – from this one-of-a-kind research project about these popular approaches to citizen engagement and participation, and to discuss what is needed next in this important field.
