Syed Haizam is the Managing Partner of The Hive Southeast Asia, a Co-Creation and Seed Venture Capital Fund under the Malaysian Ministry of Finance’s Dana Penjana Nasional Program. This initiative aims to, "Digitise the country into the Fourth Industrial Revolution." It is part of the Hive Global Group of Funds, which includes The Hive based in Palo Alto, Hive Brazil, Hive India, and Hive Climate AI. The Group plans to launch a global Generative AI fund in 2024.
In addition, Syed Haizam is the Managing Partner of Tuas Capital Partners, a private equity and venture capital investment group. He is both a Shareholder and Director of Segi Value Holdings, which operates the wholesale supermarket chain "Segi Fresh," and Srivijaya, the owner of the Cold Stone Creamery franchise in Malaysia. Previously, he served as the Investment Director of KFM Advisory Sdn. Bhd. (formerly KAF Fund Management Sdn. Bhd.) and was the Vice-President of the Malaysia-America Foundation (MAF).
Syed Haizam currently serves on the Board of Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM), a public research university focusing on agricultural science and related fields and chairs the Putra Business School Board of Directors. He also chairs the Board of Governors of Charterhouse Malaysia, having attended Charterhouse in Surrey from 1996 to 2001. His earlier career includes three years as a Governance and Sustainable Investment Analyst at F&C Investments in London.
He is a Trustee for Yayasan Raja Muda Selangor and previously served on the Selangor Youth Community (SAY) board, both of which are non-profits focused on youth issues.
Syed Haizam holds a Master of Arts in Human Sciences from Somerville College, University of Oxford with his dissertation on the, “Socioeconomic Impacts of the 1997 Southeast Asian Economic Crisis.”
He serves the Royal Court of Selangor, Malaysia, holding the title "Engku Panglima Setia Diraja."
