biography

Michael Leger is an Economic and Social Research Council (ESRC) Policy Fellow and Researcher. He joined the Heywood Fellowship team in January 2026. 

He is a PhD Candidate in International Political Economy at the University of Cambridge. His thesis is on the rise and fall of the Bretton Woods monetary order, and debates on the relationship between monetary sovereignty and development from the vantage point of the global periphery. His research involved extensive archival work on the UN and IMF especially, taking him to Geneva, New York, D.C., São Paulo, and Santiago. Michael is also an alumnus of McGill University and Deep Springs College.
