The Blavatnik School’s new annual report is out today. Covering the year April 2020 to March 2021, A year in review explores the School’s approach over the past year, from research and teaching to our wider community and supporters.
Our Dean, Professor Ngaire Woods, writes in her introduction:
“COVID-19 has been a clarion call to members of the Blavatnik School community. Managing the pandemic has taken public leaders into unknown territory. Among them are many of our alumni, current students, faculty members, and supporters. As you will read in this report, we have worked at speed to track and inform their efforts, and to provide the world with data, advice and training, and a place to cooperate even when that is difficult.”
The report is divided in three sections: the first is entitled What we do and provides updates on our alumni, students, executive programmes and research community.
The central section, Highlights, features an interview with Stefan Dercon on his role advising the UK government on foreign aid and a deep-dive into the UK's trade policy in with Emily Jones; it also provides updates on our new online courses, the Oxford COVID-19 Government Response Tracker, and on a record-breaking year for the MPP.
The final section, Our supporters, covers donors and supporters, governance and finance.

MPP and MSc alumnus Carlos Santiago Guzmán wins the inaugural Michael Cichon Graduate Award
Carlos Santiago Guzmán Gutiérrez, an alumnus of the Master of Public Policy and the MSc in Public Policy Research, has received the inaugural Michael Cichon Graduate Award for outstanding master’s thesis in Social Protection. The award recognises his MSc thesis, “Universal Social Protection Schemes in Forced Displacement Settings: Evidence from Colombia.”
