Shabana Wasij-Rasikh (MPP 2019) has been awarded the 2023 ROLEX National Geographic Explorer of the Year Award in recognition of her contribution to Afghan girls' education. Shabana co-founded the School of Leadership, Afghanistan (SOLA) with the aim of providing access to quality education for girls across Afghanistan. In 2021, Shabana led the evacuation of the SOLA community from Afghanistan, re-establishing the school in Rwanda to continue providing Afghan girls with education.

Carlos Santiago Guzmán Gutiérrez, an alumnus of the Master of Public Policy and the MSc in Public Policy Research, has received the inaugural Michael Cichon Graduate Award for outstanding master’s thesis in Social Protection. The award recognises his MSc thesis, “Universal Social Protection Schemes in Forced Displacement Settings: Evidence from Colombia.”
