The past year has seen the achievement of some major milestones for the School. We moved to a new home and we welcomed our first full cohort of MPP students; we also launched new research programmes and recruited leading academics to join us.
With such a significant period for the School, we are proud to publish today the new Blavatnik School of Government 2016 Annual Report which serves as an overview of our most recent achievements. Here are some of the highlights:
- Our new building was formally opened on 11th May by HRH the Duke of Cambridge. It recently won the Royal Institute of British Architecture (RIBA) National Award 2016 and has been shortlisted for the prestigious Stirling Prize.
- This year has seen our largest ever cohort of full-time students with 117 MPP and nine DPhil from over 55 different countries in all regions of the world.
- We have recruited eight new senior faculty members across the disciplines of law, philosophy, political science, economics, and business. We have also welcomed a number of senior academics and practitioners as visiting scholars and fellows of practice.
- Our Challenges of Government Conference on 19-20 May brought together more than 400 delegates from government, academia, the civil service and the private sector to focus on the reinvention of public policy.
- We have worked with the public sector with groups of senior civil servants from the UK, China, Malaysia and more.
- We have celebrated achievements in our alumni community, including the appointment of the youngest ever female Cabinet Minister in the UAE, Deputy Director of UK Policing and Coordinator for the 2016 Olympic and Paralympic Games Organising Committee.
This is just a small selection: we have also organised some amazing events, started new partnerships, and created new scholarships to ensure that applicants who deserve a place to study with us, can join us regardless of financial means.
