We are pleased to announce that Professor Fatima Kyari has joined the Blavatnik School of Government as the Aig-Imoukhuede (AIG) Visiting Fellow for 2026-27.
Professor Fatima Kyari is the Registrar and Chief Executive Officer of the Medical and Dental Council of Nigeria (MDCN), where she is leading reforms across medical education, health workforce governance and professional regulation. A clinician, academic and public sector leader, she has developed a distinguished career spanning healthcare delivery, medical research, health policy, implementation and institutional reform.
During her Fellowship, Fatima is examining how Nigeria's expansion of medical schools can be implemented as a strategic public sector reform that strengthens health workforce capacity, safeguards educational quality and positions Nigeria to participate more strategically in the global political economy of health, while shaping the healthcare workforce ecosystem and labour market. Her work seeks to generate practical policy recommendations that strengthen governance, regulatory stewardship and implementation of large-scale reforms in health and medical education.
The Aig-Imoukhuede Visiting Fellowship gives outstanding public servants who have made significant contributions to public sector development the opportunity to spend time at the Blavatnik School. During the Fellowship, they can study, reflect and exchange ideas with students and scholars, deepen their understanding of specific policy challenges and potential solutions, and consider approaches and practices from other countries.
Professor Ngaire Woods, Dean of the Blavatnik School of Government, said:
“I am delighted to welcome Fatima to the School and to see our partnership with the Aig-Imoukhuede Foundation continue to grow. We share a commitment to strengthening public leadership and supporting excellence in government, and our students will benefit greatly from Fatima’s extensive experience and insights.”
Previous AIG-Imoukhuede Visiting Fellows of Practice include Professor Attahiru Jega, Chief Justice Georgina Wood, Mrs Ifueko Omoigui Okauru and Director-General Funke Adepoju.
As part of the School’s partnership, Aig-Imoukhuede Foundation also provides scholarships for exceptional West African students to study for a Master of Public Policy (MPP) at the Blavatnik School, and runs an AIG Public Leaders Programme in Nigeria, which offers high-potential men and women working in the Nigerian public service a unique opportunity to transform their leadership skills and improve public service in their country.
