Alumnus to stand for election to provincial parliament in Ontario, Canada

Dr Adil Shamji (MPP 2017) has been confirmed as the Ontario Liberal Party's candidate for election in the Don Valley East district. The next Ontario General Elections will take place on or before 2 June 2022. 

Adil hopes to leverage his experience in science and medicine to advocate for creative, pragmatic policy interventions that are grounded in evidence.

Findings on immigration and the welfare state

Higher immigration tends to increase welfare spending, but its overall fiscal impact is usually small and can be positive, according to Isabel Ruiz and colleagues in the Oxford Review of Economic Policy. Meanwhile, public attitudes toward taxation and welfare redistribution are closely tied to perceptions and feelings about immigration.

Global cyber security leader Jen Easterly joins as Visiting Fellow

Jen Easterly, former Director of the US Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency and Special Assistant to President Obama, joins the School as a Visiting Fellow of Practice with the Oxford Programme for Cyber and Technology Policy, as part of its expanded drive to tackle the major challenges of the digital age.
