Seminar Room 2, Blavatnik School of Government

With Ayman Bel Hassan Cherkaoui, COP22 Advisor to the Minister of Environment, Kingdom of Morocco

Ayman Bel Hassan CherkaouiThe December 2015 Paris Agreement represented a major step forward for global efforts to address climate change, but many issues must be resolved to realise its promise. For example, how can national contributions be reviewed and ultimately scaled up? What further financing is needed, and how can adaptation and resilience be fast tracked? How can the groundswell of action from cities and businesses be consolidated and expanded? Countries will reconvene in November of this year in Marrakesh, at the 22nd Conference of the Parties (COP22) of the United Nations Frameworks Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) to consider these and other questions.

On Friday June 10, the Blavatnik School of Government will host Mr. Ayman Bel Hassan Cherkaoui, COP22 Advisor to the Minister of Environment, Kingdom of Morocco, to discuss the government’s plans for COP22. Mr. Cherkaoui will outline the government’s priorities for COP22 and seek input from the academic community.

Mr. Cherkaoui is a legal specialist and the author of several studies on climate change, investment law and sustainable development. He is Legal Research Fellow with the Climate Change and Trade and Investment Law Programmes of the Centre for International Sustainable Development Law, and currently also serves as the COP 22 Advisor to the Environment Minister of Morocco. Mr. Cherkaoui holds a law degree from the University of Montréal, an M.Sc. in Finance at EM Lyon, and a Bachelor degree in Mechanical Engineering from McGill, as well as a certificate in Adaption to Climate Change from the University of Oxford.
