Co-designing dementia care to improve value

This new project is an action-research project in collaboration with the health and care services in Durham (UK), who make local decision on how resources are spent. It aims to develop practical strategies that can improve care for those living with dementia and those that support them – without increasing costs.

Dementia is a growing problem with no simple solution. It’s a priority for the NHS and costs the UK about £26.3bn each year – the equivalent of the energy bill for every household in the country. With many services integrated across many organisations, making improvements is no small task. We want to know, when there is no extra money, how can we improve care?

Current and expected outputs:

  • Two workshops to date
  • An interactive dementia care map
  • Paper on met and unmet need
