Walaa is recognised as the youngest female Minister in the history of Sudan and the first woman to hold the position of Minister of Youth and Sports in the Transitional government formed after the 2018 popular uprising. She has a rich and diverse background, having worked across various sectors public, private, civil society, and academia in Sudan, USA, and Africa. Walaa was the first female mechanical engineer in Sudan Sugar Company workshops since its establishment in the sixties. Her professional journey includes roles at the Sudanese Standards and Metrology Organisation, Khartoum & Sudan Universities. Walaa served as the Chairperson of the East and Central African Regional Advisory Board for the Mandela Washington Fellowship.
Her passion for voluntary work led her to found and lead several initiatives across the continent. She was selected among the 100 most influential young Africans in 2020 by Africa Youth Award and the 100 most influential African women. Walaa hold an MSc in Mech Eng from ICL.
