biography

Valerie Monchi is a financial sector professional with over 20 years of experience at Lehman Brothers and Barclays.

Valerie is a Managing Director and Head of Research Products and Strategy at Barclays in New York.  Throughout her career, she has championed a variety of diversity and inclusion initiatives, including as Co-Chair of the Women’s Initiative Network at Barclays. 

As a part-time DPhil student in Public Policy, she plans to focus her research on the moral case for diversity: are diversity and the politics of difference legitimate answers to the deficiencies of difference-blind principles of justice and equality of opportunity? 

Valerie spent 10 years in journalism and was one of the founding editors of Prospect magazine in the UK before joining the investment banking industry.

She was born in France and holds a BA in philosophy from McGill University and a BPhil from Balliol College, Oxford. She sits on the Board of Directors of the Edmond de Rothschild Foundation in New York.
