Tianyi aspires to be an advocate of inclusive China-Africa development cooperation. Her MPhil research unpacks state-business relationships and multiple stakeholders involved in China-Africa electricity investment.

At the China-Africa Development Fund and CAITEC, MOFCOM of China, Tianyi facilitated consultation on industrial policy and development finance, focusing on climate resilience-building, inclusive policy-making, and equitable growth. She is the co-director of the TanzaniaCAN project of Cambridge Development Initiative, supporting SMEs in Dar-Es-Salaam.

Prior to joining the Blavatnik School of Government as a Rhodes Scholar, Tianyi completed an MPhil in Development Studies at the University of Cambridge as a Jardine Scholar. She also holds a bachelor’s degree with honours in International Politics from Fudan University in Shanghai, China, during which she specialised in Political Economy at the University of California, Berkeley, CA.

Tianyi speaks Chinese, English, French and enjoys hiking, rowing and filming.
