Thiago is from Rio de Janeiro, Brazil and holds a law degree from a prestigious Brazilian law school. He is actively engaged in political activism and research. As the head of Rio's branch of a political movement, Thiago led mass pro-democracy protests, working to create a united front against extremism, and authored a significant report for Brazil's Senate Inquiry on the pandemic. Due to his role in the demonstrations, Thiago has written for major Brazilian newspapers and been interviewed by international media, including The Guardian. He has conducted research in international law, worked at criminal law firms, acted in pro-bono cases, and is a history professor for an NGO serving underserved communities.
Thiago's key policy interests include strengthening democratic institutions, environmental protection, addressing social inequalities, and criminal governance in Rio. He is excited to further his knowledge in public policy at Oxford to drive meaningful change in Brazil.
