Tharanya is a Malaysian journalist with over a decade of expertise in analytic journalism, specialising in health, climate and education. Her work has influenced policy decisions and earned awards and as the New Straits Times’ digital editor, she developed digital strategies and integrated AI. Tharanya was awarded the United Nations RAF Fellowship in 2022 and 2023, and the EUI Summer School for Journalists and Media Practitioners Scholarship in July 2024.
Combining analytical rigour, strategic public policy thinking, and journalistic skills, Tharanya aims to produce impactful journalism that influences effective policies and drives meaningful change. Ultimately, she hopes to serve as a policy advisor or join an international organisation, specialising in policy development focused on health and climate. Tharanya holds a Bachelor of Journalism from University of South Australia and an MSc in International Relations from Bristol University as a Chevening Scholar.
