Sota is from Tokyo, Japan. After studying law and political science at the Faculty of Law, the University of Tokyo, he joined Japan's Ministry of Finance where he worked on tariffs and international trade policy and supported the organisation of the G7 Finance Ministers and Central Bank Governors' meetings under the Vice Minister for International Affairs. Most recently, he served in the Budget Bureau's Planning Section, where he was involved in formulating Japan's national budgets for fiscal years 2025 and 2026. In coordination with the Prime Minister's Office, Sota also contributed to the development of the government's fiscal and domestic economic policies. Throughout his career, Sota has developed a strong interest in maintaining fiscal discipline. In particular, he has worked on containing the growth of public expenditure while supporting the formulation of national fiscal policy.
