biography

Siyu is from China and obtained her undergraduate degree from the School of International Studies at Peking University. Her academic interests lie in the political dynamics and legal foundations of interactions between sovereign states and international mechanisms. For example, she examined the withdrawal of the United States from UNESCO and its subsequent return. She also researched the role of major powers such as China in global climate governance, and focused on marginalised groups affected by macro level policies. Siyu conducted fieldwork and advocated for the inclusion of local voices in rural planning, and investigated the impact of COVID19 control measures on vulnerable international students. She has gained practical experience through internships in a range of policy related institutions, including the Development Research Centre of the State Council, a government think tank, Save the Children, the United Nations, and a private education company. Siyu is a Rhodes scholar.
