biography
Miyakawa is a public policy professional who worked for Japan's Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry (METI). The 2011 disaster in Fukushima, Miyakawa's hometown, was the starting point of his journey towards achieving a resilient society where people are not threatened by future disaster risks. After experiencing law amendments in the relevant fields at METI, Miyakawa was seconded to the Reconstruction Agency in Fukushima. Living in the heart of the disaster-stricken area, he was responsible for rulemaking and coordinating with stakeholders to revitalise the region. Moreover, his MPP experience at Oxford in 2023-24 has broadened his perspective on the significance of policymaking for climate change mitigation/adaptation. As he embark on the MSc, he is eager to delve deeper into the rulemaking and financing for achieving socioeconomic resilience against climate change.
