biography

From Japan, Shinnosuke’s primary interest lies in the division of roles between national and local governments in societies experiencing population decline, such as Japan. He worked in the field of local administration and finance at the Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications in Japan and the Yamaguchi Prefectural Government. Most recently, he undertook an internship with Sheffield City Council in northern England, gaining practical experience in city diplomacy. He also served as a researcher at Keio University, engaging in cultural exchange projects in Kinshasa, the Democratic Republic of Congo. As an undergraduate, Shinnosuke conducted fieldwork on Kuchinoerabu-Jima, a remote island in southern Japan, researching the collaboration between universities and depopulated areas from a folkloric perspective.

In terms of his research, he intends to focus on the Japanese bureaucracy, particularly the common practice of personnel secondments between the national and local governments.

Shinnosuke is a Japanese Government Program Scholar.
