biography

Sara is an Indigenous Kichwa-Otavalo woman from the Ilumán Bajo community in Ecuador and a graduate with honours in International Relations from Universidad San Francisco de Quito. She has worked from the grassroots level in her community council, to national and international roles in government and intergovernmental institutions, including the Secretariat of Management and Development of Indigenous Peoples and Nationalities of Ecuador and the World Intellectual Property Organization. Sara's work has included managing projects, supporting treaty negotiations, and advancing international advocacy for Indigenous Peoples. She is the the founder of Tuparina, a collective empowering Indigenous women through leadership, language preservation, and cultural initiatives. Her key policy interests include Indigenous diplomacy, economic development including Indigenous-led commerce, the intersection of intellectual property rights and emerging technologies, and ethical technology governance. Sara is a Chevening scholar.
