biography

Patrícia Sampaio Chueiri is a 2023 Visiting Fellow of the Lemann Foundation Programme at the Blavatnik School of Government, Oxford.  A family and community physician with an M.D. and Ph.D. in Epidemiology from the Federal University of Rio Grande do Sul, Patricia was a Hubert H. Humphrey Fellow at Emory University in Global Health.  

She is currently a professor and researcher in the Department of Medicine at the Albert Einstein Israelite College of Health Sciences and a consultant to the Ministry of Health in the field of oncology. She is a member of the working groups on women in medicine and medical education of the Brazilian Society of Family and Community Medicine.

Patrcia has worked as a family doctor at the SUS in São Paulo, been a professor at São Camilo University and the Federal University of Rio Grande do Sul, but has spent most of her career in the Ministry of Health. There she worked in the Primary Health Care Department, including being one of the people responsible for revising the National Primary Health Care Policy and creating the PHC Information System (and SUS-AB), and then in specialised care, where she was general coordinator of chronic diseases and oncology. 

She focuses on primary health care, universal health systems, regionalisation and medical education.
