Oliver is from Wellington, New Zealand and is currently working as a junior doctor in Northland.

At university Oliver studied both medicine and philosophy, as well as undertaking research projects on New Zealand alcohol policy and ED/ICU intentional overdose presentations, and is interested in health policy, particularly the role which technological innovation has to play.

Oliver is a Rhodes Scholar.
