Nimo (Nimco) is a development practitioner from Hargeisa, Somaliland. She is passionate about advancing gender equality, community empowerment, and effective governance. She holds a BA in Politics with a concentration in International Relations from Oberlin College and an LLB from the University of Stirling. Nimco has worked across government and civil society, including at the Ministry of Planning and National Development and Abaarso Network. Her work centres on aligning development programmes with local needs, promoting women’s participation in decision-making, and strengthening institutions to deliver inclusive and accountable services. She is deeply committed to creating policies that uplift marginalised communities and support sustainable, locally driven change. Nimco believes that empowering women and under-represented groups is key to building resilient societies and unlocking the full potential of development.
Nimco is a Mastercard Foundation Scholar under the Africa Oxford Initiative (AfOx).
