Nahjae is a British-Jamaican researcher interested in the humanisation of war and the politics through which international law converts civilian suffering into obligations of restraint. Following graduate study at Oxford and NYU, he has worked across the United Nations system, bringing evidence to bear on decisions that shape how children are protected when institutions come under pressure. His DPhil takes up a neglected question in war by asking whether child casualties should carry distinct moral and legal weight, and how the answer should reshape proportionality and civilian protection. Nahjae’s wider scholarship tests the promises of international humanitarian law against the exercise of military power and asks whether legal protection can survive contact with war. He was previously a graduate scholar at All Souls College and is now generously funded by the School as a Blavatnik Scholar.
