biography

Michiko was born and raised in Tokyo, and during her university years, studied regional communities in Italy, studying abroad in Rome.

After graduating, Michiko joined the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries in Japan, where she has focused on policy formulation and implementation in various fields, including livestock disease control, international negotiations, planning for international cooperation projects through ODA, amendments to laws regarding food standards, and promotion of the food industry.

Through these experiences, Michiko has developed an interest in the impact of government intervention in markets on industrial growth. When designing systems aimed at promoting industries, she is particularly interested in understanding how much regulation is acceptable to ensure the reliability of the system, in other words, how to strike a balance between supporting businesses for promotion and regulating and supervising business activities.

Michiko is a Japanese Government Scholar.
