biography

Mayuka is from Japan and has a bachelor's degree in international relations from Hitotsubashi University in Tokyo. She is currently pursuing a master's degree in comparative politics at the London School of Economics.

Mayuka joined the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Japan in 2021, and worked for two years at the Economic Treaties Division of the International Legal Affairs Bureau before coming to the UK last summer. Her primary responsibility during those two years had been to oversee the conclusion of loan and grant agreements with countries in Africa and the Middle East as part of Official Development Assistance. She also participated in the negotiation of the International Coffee Agreement 2022, and was involved in the G7 Hiroshima Summit in 2023. Diplomacy and foreign policy are therefore her key areas of interest, but Mayuka is very keen to explore other policy areas and learn from the diverse cohort.

Mayuka is a Japanese Government Program Scholar.
