Masaya was a Deputy Director with seven years of experience at the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry (METI) in Japan. After graduating University of Tokyo in 2017, where he studied Japan’s policy-making process, he engaged in innovation and digital policy at METI. He launched the “Baby-Tech Project”, to utilise technology to address the declining birth rate, which is a critical issue in Japan. He also launched the ‘Asia Digital Transformation Initiative’, fostering cross-border collaboration between Japanese and Asian companies to leverage innovative technology for addressing social challenges. He also deals with issues regarding international cooperation on digital technology, including hosting the G7 Digital Tech Ministerial Meeting in Japan in 2023.
His interest is in what is known as 'mission-oriented innovation' policy, which is innovation and industrial policy aimed at solving social problems.
