Maria de los Angeles Lasa
I was born in Villa María, Argentina, and studied International Relations at the Catholic University of Córdoba. I also hold a Ph.D. in Political Science from the University of Camerino (Italy), where I focused on the Coca-Cocaine Complex and its securitisation in Post-Crisis Argentina (2001-2010). After finishing my doctoral studies, I worked for the City of Buenos Aires and the Financial Intelligence Unit of Argentina to deepen international cooperation towards more secure societies. More recently, however, serving as Head of Legacy for the Buenos Aires 2018 Youth Olympic Games, mega-events have become my passion. Major events can act as catalysts for economic development and social transformation of host cities, but in order for that to happen they should be based on a strong policy-design process. I am coming to the University of Oxford with that expectation: learning how to build bridges between global mega-events and local development through sustainable public policies.
