Maitha is originally from Sharjah in the United Arab Emirates. She earned her bachelor’s degree at NYU Abu Dhabi with a major in Political Science and minors in Social Research and Public Policy as well as Creative Writing. During her studies at NYUAD, Maitha dedicated her time towards public service through organising events and discussions, most prominently on mental health and decolonising psychiatric and mental health models in the UAE and beyond. Maitha also worked with the Rab3i Platform, a social enterprise aimed at ensuring and sustaining the inclusion of people with disabilities in the UAE, where she spearheaded and kickstarted a blog that highlighted crucial social issues and concepts covered within critical disability studies. Her policy interests include topics of public health, public mental health, and rights for people with disabilities.
Maitha is a Rhodes Scholar.
