I am a civic leader, an advocate for a better, safer and more equal world, and a survivor of violence. My personal experiences with terrifying repression under the Taliban and restriction in my role as a civic citizen because of my status as a Hazara ethnic minority and woman ignited in me the desire to work on social justice issues. As a result, and because I have been given myriad opportunities to further myself through education, I worked with multiple non-profits and local government offices dedicated to creating a more just society.
I have held and taught literacy classes for Afghan women and girls, assisted newly arrived refugees and immigrants with cultural adjustment, served the formerly incarcerated through restoring their civil rights, and conducted research to help those fleeing persecution and violence. I have a calling to work with marginalised people and I hope to fulfil this mission through working with the United Nations someday.
