Jyothishna is from South Africa and grew up in Durban. She has a Bachelor of Business Science in Economics with Law from the University of Cape Town, where her interests in development and inequality deepened. Her honours thesis focused on the growing and increasingly important informal retail sector in South Africa. Jyothishna is currently a Senior Associate at Boston Consulting Group in Johannesburg, where she works mainly on global health projects across HIV, malaria, vaccines, and antimicrobial resistance. Outside of work, she tutors and mentors students, including through the Allan Gray Orbis Foundation, her undergraduate scholarship program. Jyothishna is a FirstRand Oxford Blavatnik School of Government Scholar. Her main policy interests are health and education, particularly how they interact and can be used to address inequality in South Africa and similar contexts. National Health Insurance is a particular area of interest to her as South Africa navigates its potential implementation.
