Dr Jorrit de Jong is a public management scholar and academic leader whose research examines how governments build the capacity to solve complex, cross-boundary social problems. He is Emma Bloomberg Senior Lecturer in Public Policy and Management at Harvard Kennedy School and founding director of the Bloomberg Center for Cities at Harvard University, a university-wide center that advances urban problem-solving through research, teaching, and engagement with practice. He co-chairs the Bloomberg Harvard City Leadership Initiative, which has supported more than 400 mayors and their teams internationally through executive education and fieldwork. 

His scholarship spans public management, collaborative governance, social innovation, and data-informed problem solving. He is the author or co-author of nearly 30 peer-reviewed publications, three published books, and more than 60 teaching cases. He has served as principal academic lead in securing substantial external support for research, teaching, and institutional development, and has advised national governments and international organizations on public-sector innovation. Jorrit holds a Ph.D. in Public Policy and Management from VU Amsterdam, a Master in Public Administration from Leiden University, and a Master in Philosophy of Culture and Society from Leiden University.

He is currently completing two new books expected in 2027: Leading Cities Today. Leveraging Teams, Data, and Ideas to Improve the Lives of Residents (Cambridge University Press) and Solving Problems No One Owns. How Cross-boundary Teams Create Public Value (Brookings Institution Press).
