biography

Jonathan Tan is a public policy professional specialising in social policies.

Jonathan has worked in the Singapore Civil Service for seven years, most recently as Special Assistant to the Minister for Social and Family Development, Second Minister for Health, and Minister-in-charge of Muslim Affairs. Jonathan coordinated strategic policy issues, stakeholder engagements and public communications for the Minister’s Office, as well as international relations.

Previously, Jonathan led a team overseeing manpower planning and policies for the preschool sector, and reviewed Singapore’s national social assistance policy framework. He also supported a national task force driving Singapore’s post COVID-19 economic recovery plans.

Jonathan's policy interests are in how governments can forge a stronger Social Compact to spur inclusive growth and strengthen social cohesion.

He graduated as valedictorian from the Singapore Management University School of Social Sciences with an undergraduate degree in Psychology and Public Policy.

Jonathan is a Singapore Government Scholar.
