Janet is an internationally recognized lawyer, policy advisor, and thought leader who works on cutting edge issues in law, business, and policy related to international trade and investment, climate change and the environment, and human
rights. She advises governments, international organizations, and companies on a broad range of international trade and investment issues and disputes, with a recent focus on the policy and practical implications of U.S. trade and national security measures.

She has been a Partner and Senior Counsel in Clifford Chance’s Washington, DC and London offices. She is engaged in significant thought leadership on novel issues of law and public policy relevant to international trade and investment, the intersection of trade and regulation, climate change, and just transitions.

In her individual capacity, she sits as arbitrator in international disputes. She has been appointed by the United Kingdom to the list of individuals eligible to serve as expert panel members in disputes under the UK-EU Trade and Cooperation Agreement. The European Commission has named her to the list of individuals eligible for appointment as chairperson for arbitrations and as expert in trade and sustainable development expert panel proceedings under EU trade agreements.

Janet has been a Non-Resident Senior Associate in the Energy Security and Climate Change Program at the Center for Strategic and International Studies. She sits on the Governing Committee of the Cyrus R. Vance Center for International Justice and has been recognized for her contributions to the Center’s groundbreaking work on international environmental and climate issues.

Janet was previously Legal Counsel at the International Centre for Settlement of Investment Disputes at the World Bank and taught international arbitration at Stanford Law School.  She has been recognized as a leading lawyer by Who’s Who Legal and Legal500. She speaks regularly with global press outlets about international trade.
