Hidekazu has worked for the Government of Japan since 2017, focusing on ICT policy such as revising the rules for telecommunications operators, promoting the use of ICT in healthcare and agriculture, and supervising broadcasters. Most recently, at the Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications, Hidekazu tackled a series of legislative reforms that created a grant scheme to maintain broadband in a society with a declining population. He also worked in the Cabinet Secretariat on the design of two benefit projects to protect the lives of Japanese citizens from the impacts of COVID-19.
Hidekazu's main policy interests cover a wide range of ICT policies, including network neutrality, competition policy towards dominant companies, safety in the internet space, and promoting innovation. He holds a Bachelor of Law from Kyoto University, Japan, and recently completed the MPP at the School.
