biography

A Peruvian sociologist passionate about social change, Danilo is interested in studying social classes and indigenous populations, social justice and inequality reduction policies, preparedness policies and humanitarian emergency management.

Before coming to Oxford, Danilo was a humanitarian worker at the United Nations Regional Office for Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs for Latin America and the Caribbean (OCHA-ROLAC). In Peru, he served as part of the humanitarian advisor team of the UN representative. Danilo provided technical assistance to the government’s emergency management and coordinated the international cooperation response during the Lima 2022 oil spill and El Niño 2023 floods.

Danilo experiences the world from the South, from the former centre of a colonial empire in South America. Historically, Peru has an unequal socio-economic system with polarization in class and ethnicity, but social and cultural diversity revaluation has been giving the country a new self-esteem. Danilo has also worked as a researcher at the Ministry of Culture, as well as teaching undergraduate sociology courses.

Danilo is a Peruvian Government Scholar.
