Dean Daiji Kawaguchi is Dean and Professor at the Graduate School of Public Policy in the University of Tokyo. He has also served as Professor in the University’s Graduate School of Economics since 2016. His primary research interests are labour economics and empirical microeconomics and his work is centred around the formation and utilization of human capital. This includes investigating skill accumulation of self-employed workers, the effect of family background on academic performance and wage inequality as well as the assessing labour market policies.

He has been published in leading journals such as the Journal of Labour Economics and the Journal of Urban Economics, as well as serving as Associate Editor for a number of publications including the Journal of Economic Behaviour and Organization, the Hitotsubashi Journal of Economics and the Japanese Economic Review.
