Astrid is from a Venezuelan, Swedish, and Italian family but born in the United States and proudly raised in the state of Minnesota. She graduated Phi Beta Kappa from Columbia University, where she studied Political Science and Latin American & Caribbean Studies. Astrid also recently graduated with an MSc in Refugee & Forced Migration Studies from Oxford.
Her main interests are refugee and forced migration policy, particularly regarding Latin American forced displacement and reception by state and religious institutions. She focuses on populations under temporary protection statuses and complementary protections.
Astrid’s past experience includes working with the US Conference of Catholic Bishops in Migration & Refugee Services, the Community Sponsorship Hub's Welcome Corps— a new private and community sponsorship opportunity for Americans to support refugee resettlement in the United States, Servicio Jesuita a Migrantes Chile, the International Rescue Committee, and Venezuelans & Immigrants Aid NYC.
Astrid is a Rhodes Scholar.
