biography

Andrea is a Teaching Associate in Economics for Public Policy at the Blavatnik School of Government (BSG) and a Research Officer for the Young Lives Study at the Department of International Development, University of Oxford. She holds a DPhil in Social Policy and an MSc in Comparative Social Policy from the University of Oxford, and both an MSc and a BSc in Economics from the University of Chile. Her research interests include labour and education economics, socioeconomic inequalities over the life course, intergenerational transmission of economic disadvantage, and methods for public policy evaluation.

Before joining the BSG as a Teaching Associate, Andrea was a Postdoctoral Research Associate at the School for Policy Studies, University of Bristol and the ESRC Research Centre on Micro-Social Change (MiSoC). She previously worked at the BSG as a Research Officer for the Pathways for Prosperity Commission as well as a Seminar Leader in Economics for Public Policy and Evidence and Public Policy. Apart from her academic experience, Andrea acquired first-hand policy experience in Chile as a Policy Researcher for the Microdata Centre at the University of Chile and as a Social Policy Analyst at the Chilean Ministry of Social Development. In these roles, she conducted nationally representative socioeconomic surveys, analysed large-scale datasets, produced social indicators, developed algorithms for targeting social benefits, and took part in the design and evaluation of social programmes in the areas of poverty relief, employment, education, and health.
