The MPP class of 2017
We were deeply saddened to hear of the passing of our alumnus, Fausto “Nino” Ximenes, MPP class of 2017.
Nino was the School’s inaugural alumnus from Timor-Leste, paving the way for future talent and inspiring MPP current students throughout his journey. As Oxfam’s International Country Director, he advocated for human rights, climate justice, gender equality, and inclusive economic development and civil participation. Here are Nino’s words published in The Diplomat celebrating democracy and peace in Timor-Leste. Oxfam have created a memorial post in his honour.
This tribute, written by President José Manuel Ramos-Horta of Timor-Leste, reflects the inspiration and legacy Nino contributed to the community and nation:
As we mourn his passing, we must also celebrate Nino’s legacy. His life serves as a powerful reminder that being from our small island nation should never limit our aspirations. His journey demonstrates that we can dream big, grown beyond our borders, and pursue our ambitions on the global stage while contributing to our homeland’s progress.
We send our deepest condolences to Nino’s family, friends and colleagues.
