Today, the Oxford Institute of Technology and Justice, Microsoft and Anthropic announced the Oxford Justice Innovators Programme, a new partnership to support innovators who are expanding access to justice.

Around the world, only one in ten people who need a lawyer has access to one. The Oxford Institute of Technology and Justice was founded on the belief that AI can help to bridge this justice gap.

"A functioning justice system is the bedrock of our most basic freedoms. We have an opportunity to shape how AI transforms it, and a duty to do so responsibly..." – Amal Clooney and Philippa Webb KC, Co-Founders, Oxford Institute of Technology and Justice

The Oxford Justice Innovators Programme will select up to 10 startups, nonprofit organisations and other innovators using technology to expand access to justice.

"Too many people never get the legal help they need. AI can change that, but only if it's built alongside the people doing the work. We're proud to support the Oxford Justice Innovators Programme and the innovators who will bring these tools to the people who need them most." – Brad Smith, Vice Chair and President of Microsoft.

Selected innovators will join a 12-month programme and receive technical support from Microsoft and Anthropic. Support may include cloud and model credits, mentorship, training, access to technical expertise and opportunities to collaborate with other innovators and leaders across the justice and technology sectors.

“Justice should be the birthright of every person, but, right now, that birthright is limited by money, time, and the world's supply of working lawyers. The Oxford Institute of Technology and Justice is using AI to extend the reach of talented lawyers and bring justice into reach for millions more people, and we're excited to collaborate with them to help solve this previously insurmountable problem.” – Daniela Amodei, Co-Founder and President of Anthropic.

Oxford Institute of Technology and Justice

The Oxford Institute of Technology and Justice – a partnership between the Blavatnik School of Government, University of Oxford and the Clooney Foundation for Justice – was founded to close the divide between those who need justice and those who can access it. Our vision is to harness AI to expand access to legal information, connect lawyers to those who need them the most and minimise the risks of AI for justice systems.

The Oxford Institute of Technology and Justice was co-founded by Amal Clooney, Visiting Professor of Practice in International Law and Philippa Webb KC, Professor of Public International Law at Oxford University’s Blavatnik School of Government.

And we leverage technology, including AI, to build a global network for justice. We aim to be the premier organization delivering legal aid and using AI to advance justice.
