The Youth division of the Commonwealth Secretariat has developed a Global Youth Development Index (YDI) and Report for 2016. Rafi Kakar, MPP Class of 2013, co-edited and led research on the report.
The YDI is a composite index of 18 indicators that collectively measure progress on youth development in 183 countries of the world. The index looks at, and measures, a number of themes: education, health and wellbeing, employment and opportunity, and political and civic participation. This is the first-ever worldwide youth index.
The purpose of the YDI report is to help stakeholders understand the current levels of attainments and capabilities of young people, to identify the dimensions of youth development that are less satisfactory, and to facilitate of the evolution of more evidence-based youth policies and programming.
