17:00 - 17:00, 03 May 2016
Blavatnik School of Government, Radcliffe Observatory Quarter, Oxford OX2 6GG

23 June 2016 is a date that will go down in history as the moment when the British public decides its future as they vote on whether or not the country should remain a member state of the European Union. Conflicting messages and vibrant debates are dominating our news streams and filling our dinner conversations. What is really at stake when we each choose to answer the question on our voting slips: “Should the United Kingdom remain a member of the European Union or leave the European Union?”

A government report outlining the process of withdrawing from the EU warns that approximately two million UK citizens living, working and travelling in the other 27 Member States of the EU could lose their rights to live and work, and their access to pensions, health care and public services that are currently guaranteed because of EU law. But pro-Brexit campaigners argue that we will save our economy billions of pounds currently spent on EU membership and gain more control over our trade, our borders, and all our domestic policies.

Which way are you going to vote? Don't decide until you've heard both sides of the argument at the Blavatnik School of Government's public debate on "Britain IN or OUT of Europe?" on 3 May at 6pm.

Our panel of experts will debate political, economic and social issues at stake.

Speakers on the debate are:

  • Roger Bootle - economist and weekly columnist for the Daily Telegraph
  • Lord Stephen Green - former HSBC CEO and former British Minister of State for Trade and Investment (2011-2013)
  • Vicky Pryce - economist and former Joint Head of the Government Economic Service
  • Emma Reynolds - MP and former shadow secretary for Communities and Local Government (2015)
  • Iain Martin - editor of CapX
  • David Campbell Bannerman - Tory MEP/ former UKIP deputy leader

The debate is free and open to all, however registration is now at capacity and has closed.

The event will be streamed live and recorded on the Blavatnik School of Government YouTube channel.
