The Humanities Division and All Souls College are delighted to welcome the distinguished economist Professor Stanley Fischer as the Humanitas Visiting Professor in Economic Thought for 2012.
He will take part in a series of events in Michaelmas Term and will deliver a public lecture on Monday 5th November. The lecture will be on Lessons of the Crisis 2007-2012. He will also take part in a workshop on Tuesday 6th November along with Professor Hyun Song Shin (Hughes-Rogers Professor of Economics at Princeton University) and Sir John Vickers (Warden of All Souls College and Chair of the Independent Commission on Banking).

More about the Visiting Professor
Stanley Fischer has been Governor of the Bank of Israel since 2005. From 2002-2005 he was Vice Chairman of Citigroup and President of Citigroup International. He was First Deputy Managing Director of the International Monetary Fund from 1994-2001. From 1973 to 1994 he was a member of the faculty of the MIT Department of Economics, teaching mainly macroeconomics and monetary economics, in which areas his research has been concentrated. He has also worked on international macro and on development economics. At the time he left MIT for the IMF he was James Killian Professor and Head of Department, and is currently Professor Emeritus in the MIT Economics Department. From 1988 to 1990, on leave from MIT, he served as Vice President and Chief Economist of the World Bank. He is the co-author of Macroeconomics and Lectures in Macroeconomics (1989).
