Join Professor Marian Knight, Professor of Maternal and Child Population Health, in conversation with Professor Alan Stein, Senior Research Fellow in Global Health and Public Policy.

Professor Knight will reflect on her experiences of research in maternal and child health and where this has had the greatest impact on public policy. She will consider how we can ensure research informs public policy in maternal and child health and vice versa.

The event is followed by a drinks reception.

Marian Knight is Professor of Maternal and Child Population Health at the National Perinatal Epidemiology Unit, Nuffield Department of Population Health, University of Oxford, UK, NIHR Scientific Director for Research Infrastructure and Programme Director for the NIHR Programme Grants for Applied Research Scheme. She is a public health physician and applied health researcher whose research focuses on the care and prevention of severe complications of pregnancy and early life and addressing disparities in outcomes for women and babies from different population groups.

She established the UK Obstetric Surveillance System (UKOSS) in 2005 to conduct national studies of severe morbidities in pregnancy and leads the MBRRACE-UK national programme of maternal and perinatal mortality surveillance and Confidential Enquiries. She is an NIHR Senior Investigator and was elected to fellowship of the Academy of Medical Sciences in 2021 in recognition of her exceptional contribution to the advancement of medical science. She was awarded an MBE in the 2023 King’s New Year Honours for services to maternal and public health.
